**Importance of Diet and Exercise in Prevention of Insulin Resistance**
During the past half-century, there has been a dramatic increase in the incidence of obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. A hallmark feature of these conditions is impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). Studies have provided direct evidence that a lack of physical activity and improper diet is strongly associated with IGT. However, during the past few decades, significant progress has been made towards understanding the molecular basis underlying the beneficial effects of diet and exercise (yoga) in stimulating the entry of glucose into insulin-sensitive tissues. Studies also confirm the beneficial effect of weight reduction on hyperinsulinemia in obese individuals through proper diet and exercise.
Insulin resistance, a reduction in the rate of glucose disposal elicited by a given insulin concentration, is present with obesity, diabetes, and may develop with ageing. Methods utilized to measure insulin sensitivity include the hyper-insulinemic-euglycemic and hyperglycemic clamps, and intravenous glucose tolerance tests. Several improper hormone mechanisms and abnormal free fatty acid metabolism play important roles in insulin resistance and abnormal carbohydrate metabolism seen in individuals who are obese or diabetic. Improvements in glucose metabolism after body weight loss and exercise training may, in some cases, be partially attributed to changes in body composition, including reductions in total and central body fat.
The VRK diet and supplements can reverse improper insulin resistance in the body. Along with these diets, practicing certain Yogasanas like Ardhachakrasana, Pavanamuktasana, Vakrasana, Sarvangasana, along with 5-7 Suryanamaskaras and Nadishudhi pranayama, is advisable. It is recommended to practice these 5 days a week for 15-20 minutes. Apart from Yoga you can also do Aerobics Exercise and Strength Training.
